Location
Hafnarfjörður
Hafnarfjörður is Iceland’s third largest town, with around 25.000 inhabitants. A direct translation of the town’s name is “harbour fjord,” referencing the town’s exquisite natural harbour that contributed to making the town an important centre for fishing and trade early on.
The town is built on lava, and is said to have an extremely large population of Hidden Folk, elves, dwarfs and other mystical beings. According to mythology, they inhabit boulders that are almost impossible to destroy. The Hidden World Tour takes tourists around the town to further examine the dwellings of these creatures.
In the famous Viking Village of Hafnarfjörður (Fjörukráin), you can experience the true spirit of the Vikings, including their lively feasts. The international Viking Festival is celebrated on the summer solstice, attracting visitors and modern-day Vikings for more than a decade.
